January Snows

I suppose being ‘off-line’ for a while has meant we haven’t really kept up with what’s going on with the weather – each day’s event has been a ‘surprise’!!  So it was a real surprise to wake up to snow on the 15th January…

It was only a dusting compared with what our friends in Calgary are experiencing (!) but it was snow all the same 🙂

It’s amazing how the landscaped is transformed, even by the smallest snowfall…

We had a short walk down the lane to the stream and the road – no gritters reach us out here!

Further snow arrived on the 18th January and the temperature dropped considerably, for a few days it was very cold, well below zero….

But then, as quickly as it arrived, it melted and disappeared, to be replaced by warmer weather and shrouding fog.

A Mixed Bag

By the 23rd January, after a couple of days of fog, we were sitting on the terrace in the warm sunshine, having a cup of tea!  It was almost 20 degrees…

Colin and Mouse enjoy the better weather and seemed to be getting on quite well, until Colin decided to chase Mouse, which didn’t go down well!  He was un-phased, of course, and took up position on the nearest fence post, while we hung out the washing….

Sunrises and sunsets are still enthralling here….

While the hills obscure the setting sun, we still see the wonderful light shows on a good evening…..

I’d say we’ve had our fair share of rain over the last few days and it’s pretty miserable when it’s driving in from the west, not least because the living room door has yet to be sealed and painted so leaks into the house when it rains from that direction – some remedial action will be required when it dries up a bit 🙁

Still, it was dry enough last week to enable me to get out and plant some snow drops in the garden, while Edward set up the internet satellite equipment…

Most nights we hear the barn owls and tawny owls calling as they fly around the property – I caught a glimpse of one early one morning at the end of the big barn, while the moon was just dropping below the roof of the small barn…. We love it here! ♥
